Pickleball paddles continue to advance as manufacturers push the envelope of R&D to find the next big thing in pickleball. With that said, USA Pickleball has paddle restrictions in place to help protect the integrity of the game. These rules are in place to prevent paddles from becoming too big, too powerful, or generating excessive spin.
According to their guidelines, a paddle should not exceed 24” in combined width and length while not exceeding 17” in length. (For example, if a paddle is 16” long, it must be no wider than 8”; if it's 17” long, it cannot be more than 7” wide, etc.). The idea is that a paddle should complement a player's game without giving an unfair advantage.

If you’re on the hunt for a paddle with a large sweet spot, you’ll want to look for paddles that are classified as standard-shaped pickleball paddles. If you see a paddle that is very long and thin, or very short and wide, you might find their sweet spot is responsive but smaller.
