The first thing you’ll notice when you take the SLK Halo Control XL for a spin is its large and generous sweet spot, making it a fan favorite right out of the box. The average weight of roughly 7.9 oz provides a good balance of maneuverability and control while not sacrificing power or stability. If you play with a two-handed backhand, you’ll be all set with the 5 ¾” handle that can fit two hands (but isn’t too long for one).

What type of player should use the Halo Control XL?

Control is in the name and control is its game! If you’re a player who focuses on painting lines and controlling rallies with accuracy over power, then the SLK Halo Control XL will be a great fit. One of the most premium face materials out there, the SLK Control XL provides spin that will increase your power and let you focus on placing your shots in the right spots. The Rev-Core Control Polymer Core also contributes to enhanced control, flexing at impact and springing the ball to all parts of the court. If you’re a player who uses two hands on your backhand, plays a control-style game, and doesn’t like a paddle that creeps too far into the 8-ounce range, the Halo Control XL is a great option!

Paddle Expert’s Thoughts on the SLK Halo Control XL

I haven’t hit a Selkirk paddle that I haven’t liked, and the SLK Halo Control XL is no exception. This elongated shape offers a surprisingly generous sweet spot that not only provides plenty of power around the paddle’s face but also works well for players who might occasionally mis-hit the ball when defending the kitchen line. (Which I’m guilty of!) The Halo Control XL has the premium T700 Raw Carbon Fiber Face, which actually does make a difference in play, whether we want to believe it or not! It was plenty soft in and around the kitchen, which wasn’t shocking given the poly core that most paddles share. If I could change one thing, I’d shorten the handle. As a player who only uses one hand when swinging a backhand, I’d shave off around ¾” of the grip to utilize more hitting surface. Overall, the Control XL is a universal paddle that can be used by any level of player, but a player focused on control should gravitate towards the Control XL.

Pros

  • Very high in control.
  • Durable and stable. This paddle is built to last.
  • The 16mm core makes the feel of the paddle second to none.

Cons

  • Longer handles can be a pro or a con, depending on your play style.

Pros: Long handle, great touch. Aesthetically awesome.

Cons: Much softer than anticipated. Doesn’t feel like something I could play with long-term.

Great New Paddle | Anthony DeIntinis

Pros: This paddle has not only a bigger sweet spot but also great control. The feel is much better and it also has the durability you look for in a Sellkirk.
